On the Announcement of a PWHL Team in Seattle
Today, a dream became reality: Seattle is officially getting a PWHL team.
This campaign to get a PWHL team and rally a fan base didn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of 5+ years of passion, persistence, and belief from those who have always known that Seattle deserves a women’s pro hockey team.
We built this campaign on the energy of fans and to build fan energy for a future team. It was built by a community of believers—who showed up long before it seemed feasible. We rallied together because we knew: “We Are Ready”. Seattle was ready. Ready to support the best athletes in the world. Ready to invest in women’s professional hockey. Ready to build something lasting.
When we launched this campaign, it wasn’t just about hoping for a team—it was about proving that one belonged in Seattle. We threw watch parties, handed out stickers, sold jerseys and apparel, showed up at IIHF Rivalry Series and PWHL games when they came to town, and spread the word far and wide. And today, all that belief was rewarded. Seattle is officially part of the future of women’s hockey—and it’s only just beginning.
To the fans who stood with us from day one: this is your victory. Your energy, passion, and persistence helped make this happen. For those who are on board today—YES—this milestone belongs to all of us. To the Seattle Kraken and Oakview Group: thank you for quietly working behind the scenes to submit a bid. To the PWHL and the Walter Group: thank you for seeing Seattle’s potential and investing in this incredible opportunity.
This is just the beginning. We may have to wait until 2026 for a team to hit the ice in Climate Pledge Arena, but the roots are already deep. Together, I can’t wait to welcome our players, fill the arena, and show the world the passion and spirit that define the PWHL Seattle hockey fans.
Until then, let’s celebrate together!
Join us at Rough & Tumble Pub at 4:00 PM (4/30/25) in Ballard for a post-announcement party!
We’ll be watching a PWHL game, enjoying great food and drinks, handing out our freebies, and celebrating this huge milestone for women’s pro hockey in Seattle with the community.
All are welcome! I hope you can make it — it’s going to be a fun and memorable way to cap off an amazing day.
All my best,
Zoe
