PWHL Seattle Assembles Star-Powered Core Ahead of Expansion Draft
Seattle’s new PWHL franchise is wasting no time making waves. With the league’s expansion draft just around the corner, the team has officially signed its first five players—an impressive mix of international stars, rising talent, and game-changers in every zone.
Hilary Knight (Forward): Arguably the most iconic name in women’s hockey, Knight becomes the face of the franchise with a one-year deal. A proven leader and fierce competitor, she brings veteran poise and elite scoring ability. Knight’s presence instantly boosts Seattle’s credibility and fan excitement.
Danielle Serdachny (Forward): Selected second overall in the 2024 PWHL Draft, Serdachny adds youth and skill to the roster. Known for her clutch scoring and two-way game, the 24-year-old Canadian signs on for two years and is expected to be a cornerstone of Seattle’s forward group for seasons to come.
Cayla Barnes (Defense): Another top-five draft pick, Barnes signs a three-year contract to anchor Seattle’s blue line. With international and collegiate accolades already to her name, she brings elite skating, strong defensive awareness, and playmaking from the back end.
Alex Carpenter (Forward): Carpenter joins the team after a standout season, where she was among the league’s top scorers. With Olympic experience and a sharp offensive mind, her one-year deal adds firepower to Seattle’s top lines and leadership to the locker room.
Corinne Schroeder (Goaltender): One of the most reliable goalies in the league, Schroeder rounds out the initial signings with a two-year commitment. Known for her calm presence in net and shutout prowess, she provides a solid foundation in goal for the expansion team.
Seattle General Manager, Meghan Turner, praised the group for bringing a balance of leadership, youth, and competitiveness: “These five players reflect what we want our team identity to be—tough, smart, and built to win.”
With these five core players locked in, Seattle will complete its initial 12-player roster during the PWHL Expansion Draft on June 10. Expectations are high, and with a foundation this strong, Seattle fans have every reason to be excited.
